LETTER FROM OUR DIRECTOR

Hello Families and Friends!

It is a privilege to serve as The Skola’s Director.  I have lifetime roots in the Flathead Valley and am honored to be leading young learners in the same places where I learned so much as a child. We at The Skola view our surroundings, including the mountains, forests, and waterways, as our classroom.  One that is connected and dynamic.  This is true for our approach to education, too.

The Skola operates as an intentionally small school, where connections across ages are nurtured. Each child is known individually by our teachers and staff, allowing us to foster joyful, personal relationships with learning. Our small size promotes a close-knit community, with frequent family gatherings as a core component of our program. We strive to continually extend our circles of community, with a commitment to fostering our foundational values.  Our students are responsible citizens and change makers in the world. With our downtown location, we honor our connection to the City of Whitefish and the greater Flathead Valley and we strive to be stewards of our local resources and helpful neighbors.  Watch for our students out in our community sweeping the streets, picking up trash, or shoveling snow!

At The Skola, we work hard to nurture an environment where each child feels a sense of belonging, a place where we can laugh and play, a place where we can observe and investigate, and a place where we can think deeply and wonder freely.

Our staff at The Skola is truly special.  We bring a broad and diverse set of skills with the common goal of dynamic, creative, and research-backed education. Our passionate staff is committed to staying updated on the latest educational research and curricular developments, integrating the highest quality practices for supporting social-emotional learning and executive functioning, and providing authentic and real world problem solving experience.  Through the “project- and place-based” learning around town and in the wilderness surrounding us, we are proud to say that we are accomplishing our goals!

On behalf of our staff and our Board, we welcome you to The Skola!

Warmly,

Brooke Ober, MS, CCC-SLP
